WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?

Shockwave therapy or EPAT (extracorporeal pulse activation technology) uses micro-electric currents and mechanical pressure waves to stimulate metabolism, enhances blood circulation, and accelerates the body’s healing process.

WHAT DOES SHOCKWAVE DO?

Shockwave therapy uses gentle mechanical pressure and electrical waves similar to stim to massage toughened muscles and relax muscles. Shockwave reduces inflammation which in turn reduces pain. The gentle use of mechanical pressure also works out knots or "kinks" in muscles that often are very painful.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SHOCKWAVE?

Shockwave is used on patients who suffer from rotator cuff tears, tight and tender muscles, ligament damage, low back and stomach pain and neck pain. Shockwave therapy has also been used before acupuncture treatments to increase blood flow which has increased the effectiveness of the acupuncture.

WHAT DOES SHOCKWAVE LOOK LIKE?

Shockwave is a small machine that has a wand attachment which is where the mechanical "tapping" or pressure comes from. A cooling gel is placed on the patient's skin to prevent irritation. The wand is used to glide over the skin as the machine emits tapping pressure and electric waves causing the increase in blood flow and the release of tension in muscles.
